2012 Video Contest Winners

The National Ocean Sciences Bowl and the National Marine Educators Association are pleased to announce the final winners the 2012 “Living on the Ocean Planet” Video Contest.

There were some excellent entries, but the final winner for both the National and our Fan Favorite Contest was “From Cells to Saviors” by Daniel Seidman, Jung Huh and Jenny Seo of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology. Through stop-motion animation, “From Cells to Saviors” follows the history of sea life from the dawn of cells to present day, while addressing the complications that humans’ evolution has imposed on ocean, from marine debris to unsustainable fishing. The film challenges humanity to use its ingenuity to resolve the environmental crises it has created. “From Cells to Saviors” will be featured on NOAA’s Ocean Today Kiosks throughout North America.

Congratulations are also in order for the creators of the two runner up videos. Second Place was earned by “Sea Change,” by Charlie Mills, Luke Molly and Matt Purcell of the Marine Academy of Science and Technology. Third Place was earned by “The Warming Trailer“, by Kevin Quigley and Kevin Boyles of the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science.

All of these videos, and more, can be viewed on NOSB’s YouTube Channel. Thanks to all of our participants for submitting such fantastic films and congratulations to all of the 2012 divisional winners.
