2013 Video Contest Winners
There were some excellent entries, but the National winner is “A Freshwater Perspective” by Elaine Cheung, Josephine Young, and Victoria Wu of Mark Keppel High School. Through creative artwork, “A Freshwater Perspective” addresses the connection of freshwater to marine systems, the importance of freshwater to humans and the environment and the harmful impacts humans have on freshwater resources. The film challenges it’s viewers to make environmentally-sensitive choices and restore freshwater ecosystems. “A Freshwater Perspective” will be featured on NOAA’s Ocean Today Kiosks throughout North America.
Congratulations also to our Fan Favorite Contest winner and the creators of the two National runner-up videos. The Fan Favorite winner is “Fins First into Freshwater” by Rachel Paul, Anju Malhotra, and Natalie Einselen of Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Science. Second Place is awarded to “Supershrimp: A Closer Look into the Hawaiian Opae’ula” by Christopher Kim and Gabriel Salazar of Maui High School. Third Place is awarded to “A call to Action to Conserve Earth’s Freshwater Supply” by Stephanie Wellen, Sydney Jupitz, and Bayley Taylor of Mount deSales Academy.
