Professional Development Webinars
The National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) is happy to announce a special professional development opportunity for middle and high school educators nationwide. All educators are welcome to register, and NOSB coaches are highly encouraged to participate.
The free online webinar series, occurring in December 2016, will focus on the 2017 NOSB competition theme of ‘Blue Energy: Powering the Planet with our Ocean.’ The purpose of the series is to provide teachers with the opportunity to enhance their awareness and understanding of topics such as: the various technologies used to harness energy from waves, tides, currents, wind and thermal gradients; the challenges in implementing marine renewable energy projects – in terms of environment and permitting/regulation policies; and the many organizations and groups supporting such projects in the U.S. in an attempt to commercialize the use of ocean energy for a sustainable future. Learn more about the 2017 competition theme online.
NOSB coaches, please note: The seminar’s guest experts will be writing questions for the 2017 NOSB competitions!
Each of the presenters will give a one hour live webinar presentation on their current research or topic of interest, followed by a 30 minute Q&A session.
The links to each of the webinars will be posted on the NOSB website. All participants logged into the meeting will be able to listen and follow along with the presentation, as well as type questions for the presenter during the live presentation. The NOSB national office staff will read the questions to the presenter.
In addition to the live interactive portion of the webinars, there will also be asynchronous elements. Each presenter may post related educational resources on the NOSB webpage, which will be available to you and your students to explore. Full video of the presentations will also be posted on the NOSB’s YouTube channel.

Webinar presenter information coming shortly!
Providing a direct link between this seminar series and the NOSB competitions, each presenter will be writing questions for the NOSB competitions. Participating coaches will come away from these webinars with a much stronger understanding of this year’s theme and will be able to better prepare their students for the 2017 NOSB Regional and Finals Competitions.
How you can participate: All NOSB coaches that have registered a team for the 2017 competition season will be sent an invitation for the professional development series by the NOSB national office and/or their Regional Coordinators. Any other teachers interested in participating may email the NOSB national office at email@example.com or simply check the NOSB website for the links to each individual webinar. We anticipate being able to accommodate all interested parties, but participation will be on a first log-in, first serve basis as space allows.
