Morse Science Students Competing on Saturday

Two teams of Morse High School science students will compete Saturday in the Nor’easter Bowl in Durham, N.H.

The two teams from Morse will compete against eight other teams from a region that includes high schools in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The winning team in the regionals will go on to compete in the 11th Annual National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) in Seward, Alaska in late April.

The Morse teams are coached by George Schaab and Julie LaRosa. The competition is patterned on the old television College Bowl, with wide-ranging questions asked of individuals and teams.

“This is something the students prepared for on their own time,” Schaab said.

The science bowl is organized by the Consortium for Ocean Leadership based in Washington, D.C. The NOSB’s aim is to interest students in the ocean sciences as a college major and potential career. All together, approximately 2,000 students from over 300 high schools will participate this year.
