Congratulations to the winning teams of the 15 regional National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) competitions held this year! The NOSB is building our next generation of marine scientists, policy makers, teachers, explorers, researchers, technicians, environmental stewards, and informed community members by educating them in ocean science topics that are increasingly relevant today and into the future. In each competition, students are tested on their knowledge of ocean science disciplines through buzzer-style, multiple-choice questions and open-ended team challenge questions.
This year’s theme, “Ocean Conservation: Connecting Science and Stewardship for a Healthy Ocean”, explores the connections between ocean health and human activities, highlighting how science, technology, innovation, policy, and community action must come together to drive global efforts to safeguard and preserve our most critical natural resource.
Regional bowls are taking place from February 7 to March 27, 2026, and winners will continue to be updated here. Unfortunately, the National Office is not able to offer a traditional National Finals competition this year, either in-person or virtual. Pending available funding, the NOSB is hoping to offer an activity/opportunity and/or prize to the regionally winning teams in place of a finals competition.
The NOSB is more than just a competition focused on science and stewardship; it’s a community that fosters joy and hope for our future ocean leaders. Interested in participating in your regional bowl next year? Check out the Information for Teams page. Maybe you’d like to volunteer as a competition official? Learn more about volunteer opportunities on our Volunteer Roles page. Or perhaps you are looking to provide a donation or sponsorship in support of our mission to inspire the next generation of ocean leaders? See our Donation page for details. There’s a place for you in the NOSB community, please join us!
The NOSB is an education program of the Center for Ocean Leadership (COL), a University Corporation for Atmospheric Research Community Program.
The NOSB is made possible by our generous sponsors.
