Scholarships

As part of the NOSB’s continuing effort to recognize individual achievement, the Center for Ocean Leadership offers the National Ocean Scholar Program. This scholarship program provides tuition assistance (up to $1,000) for NOSB students who have an interest in pursuing an ocean or environmental science major in their first year of post-high school education.

Criteria for the National Ocean Scholar Program

All applicants for the National Ocean Scholar Program must meet the following requirements:

  • Participation in the NOSB at least once during their high school career

  • A career goal in the ocean sciences or an environmental science-related field

  • Demonstration of academic success and integrity throughout their high school career

  • Scheduled high school graduation date in Spring of application year

The 2025 application package is not yet available. View the 2024 application package.

The $1,000 in scholarship funds can be spent on college-related costs including tuition, fees, textbooks, a laptop or tablet, or transportation (parking or bus fare). Non-acceptable costs include room and board, recreational travel, car payments, and student loans.

If you have any questions about the application, please contact the National Office.

If you are interested in supporting the National Ocean Scholar Program and helping future ocean scientists, please consider donating to the scholarship fund (please contact the National Office for more details or visit our Donations page to make an online contribution).
